The Importance of Time to Yourself

Recently I’ve been thinknig a lot about how to create more time to myself and what the benefits are of alone time. Whether you’re snowed under with work or are feeling a little smothered locked down in your home in the last year, it’s important to step back and take time to yourself to recharge. I feel that a lot of us feel guilty for taking time to ourselves alone, especially those with big work commitments or family commitments; I was feeling like this too but I’ve also felt the benefits of going for walks alone so I thought I’d look into the benefits of time to yourself and time alone, and how this effects our mental and physical health, and our lives in general.

My Favourites of 2020

So 2020 wasn’t actually the best of years, pretty sure we all went through some of the worst times we’ve ever experienced, and most likely ever will experience and unfortunately it’s not over yet. With several disasters etc across the world, plus of course a deadly pandemic, we’ve all been lopcked away to keep us safe, some have lost jobs and more importantly friends and family, we’ve experienced fear, stress, loneliness, helplessness. I can’t speak for everyone but for me, the beginning was terrifying; being sent a letter from you doctor telling you that you have to literally stay inside as I’m more likely to get sick isn’t exactly the best news, that mixed with having to go onto benefits for the first time due to not being furloughed, hearing the struggles of loved ones dealing with mental health issues heightened by lockdown and the situation and also dealing with my own, finishing university and only getting my degree certificate posted while still waiting for our graduation ceremony which will be a year after we’ve officially graduated, missing friends and not being able to hug my own family members. It’s definitely been a hell of a year!

I’m not a huge Christmas lover; not that I don’t like Christmas, I just don’t get as excited about it as other people. I don’t go round with a Christmas jumper or put the Christmas tree up as soon as December 1st comes around, but I love giving presents to others and baking Christmas treats with my Mum and normally I’d go ice skating with friends then take a walk through the gardens to see all the lights…but this year is a bit different. This year we can’t see all our friends and family as usual, the gardens aren’t decorated and the ice rink is closed…so sake to say I’m not feeling all to Christmassy and I know there’s a lot of other people feeling the same so I thought I’d find a couple little Christmas activities we can do to get into the Christmas spirit! Check out 10 activities to feel festive this season below.

Epilepsy Awareness Month

This month is Epilepsy Awareness month and considering that 1 in 50 people will have epilepsy at some point in their lives, it’s a condition that is hardly spoken about. So with that in mind, I thought I’d create some awareness and talk about it a little with the help of a close friend who has been educating me about what it’s like to personally suffer with epilepsy.

A – Z Advice

We all need some words of wisdom now and again, with everything going on in the world at the moment it’s important to re-focus, think about what’s most important to you and live the life you want to live ans sometimes, we all need a bit of advice to keep our heads up and help us on the right path so I’ve got a peice of life advice for every letter of the alphabet to get you started and hopefully help give you a boost, I know it’s helped me a little!

Ask questions – The more you ask the more you learn!

Be kind to others – It takes nothing to be kind and you might just make someones day.

Cry if you need to – Sometimes you don’t even know why, but you feel a whole lot better after, never bottle up your emotion.

Dedication is half the battle – Dedication and some hard work makes all the difference.

Explore – Whether it’s your home town or the other side of the world, explore as much as you can, you’ll gain a wealth of knowledge and experience as you go.

Face your fears – You can run away from your fears for the rest of your life, or you can turn and face them, overcome your fears to move forward.

Give back – We don’t all have a lot but if you can, give back whether that’s to your parents, school, friends, or community everyone needs the help sometimes.

Help others – We all need a little help sometimes, help your mum with the cooking or the washing up, help the little old lady carry her shopping, even the smallest act can help move mountains.

Indulge – It’s okay to treat yourself sometimes, get that jacket you’ve been saving up for, eat that extra piece of chocolate, it’s okay to indulge once in a while.

Joke around – Yes we all need to put on a serious face and act professional sometimes but that’s no fun all the time! It’s important to have a good laugh and be a little silly to relieve some stress.

Keep moving forward – Especially at the moment, it’s important to tell yourself to keep moving forward, even if that’s just one small step at a time.

Love what you do – Although money is important, it’s no life when you’re miserable in your job, find something you love doing and work out how to form a career from it, there’s always a way!

Make ever day count – 2020 has made us all realise how important life is, so make memories and make every day count.

Never give up – Life is hard and sometimes it just sucks but never give up, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. Keep moving and never give up.

Open yourself to opportunities – Experience is everything, take every opportunity you can, your life will be richer for it and who knows what you’ll learn! (Plus, any experience or opportunity is a great addition to your CV).

Practice makes perfect – So apparently it takes 10,000 hours to completely master a skill so actually practice makes perfect is true, if there’s something you enjoy but maybe aren’t too good at it, keep going, keep practicing and you will improve.

Quiet moments help recharge – Even for extroverts, we all need some quiet time to ourselves to sit back, relax and recharge.

Rest is needed – You can only keep going for so long, everyone needs to slow down once in a while and that’s okay, we need to take time to look after ourselves and rest.

Stay grounded – No matter where you end up in life and how much you earn, remember how you got there, who helped you to get there, where you started, remember where you came from.

Time heals – Time heals all wounds, we’ve all heard it but it’s true, as time goes on it hurts less and the bad memories fade, it all gets better with time.

Uniqueness is golden – We all want to fit in with others but that little part of you that makes you different is what sets you apart from the rest, don’t mute your unique aspect, nurture it.

Value what you have – We all have dreams, we all want more but it’s important to remember to step back and be thankful for all you have already, it’s more than most people so work towards more, but be grateful for everything you have already.

Why not? – A question to ask yourself often, take that leap, experience something different, push yourself. Why not go for that promotion? Why don’t you have that cookie? Why don’t you go out and have some fun? Why not wear that bright yellow jumper? Life is for living.

Xperience is everything – If you look at requirements for a new job, grades matter but what most people look for, is experience. Experience new things, travel, try new food, new activities, the more you experience, the more you learn and broaden your knowledge, experience life.

Young at heart – Growing up sucks, being an adult isn’t always a lot of fun but we don’t need to leave our childhood self behind, have fun, enjoy life, stay young at heart.

Zoom out – Life can get the better of us sometimes, we can get overwhelmed and obsessed so sometimes we need to just stop, look at what we’ve got, where we’ve been, where we’re going, look outside our own little bubble, you might just find what you’re missing.

I hope you guys found this post interesting, the advice is pretty generic but it’s all important things to remember. Life can be a struggle and sometimes a little advice is all you need to give you that little nudge in the right direction. What piece of advice would you give? Let me know down in the comments!

What Will the “New Normal” Be Like?

2020 has been a weird year…we’ve never seen a pandemic like this in our lifetimes and it’s spread all over the world, this is a worldwide situation. Covid-19 is easily spread, is a virus attacking the lungs similar to pneumonia but worse for those who are vulnerable and so far, there’s no vaccine…that’s pretty scary stuff. I understand that there will be people out there who have a different opinion and I respect that so first I’m going to say that everything in this post is from my point of view.

Self Care Awareness Month – The Importance of Self Care

In our everyday lives, we are all so caught up in our day to day; get ready, go to work, get home, wash, clean, cook, look after family, stand as a support system for friends and family…we all try to do so much to support and care for our loved ones that we often forget about ourselves and end up burning ourselves out. I believe that 2020 has taught us all how important our own health is…how important self care is so I thought that now is as good a time as any to talk abut how important it really is, during Self Care Awareness Month.

What I’ve Learned From My Uni Experience

So I’m currently waiting on results for my fourth and final year at Bournemouth University studying Event Management. 4 years of my life, 4 years of education, 4 years of study and hard work! It’s all over; I’ve learned so much from my four years at Bournemouth Uni, from the topics we’ve studied, to working in the industry, to just learning more about myself and coming into my own! So for anyone out there thinking about going to uni or starting this year, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned and hopefully give a bit of advice! I know that with lockdown and everything going on it’s so up in the air right now. But I also know that a lot of you will still be starting uni come September. Although we don’t know what that’s gonna look like right now it’s still going to be a unique experience. So I thought I’d share a little bit of advice with you.
